MESSAGE: "There is hope, just have faith!"

SCRIPTURE: I Kings 19:1-3; 9-18

Minister Frederick A. Landy

I  Kings 19:1-3; 9-18 (NASB):

 Elijah Flees from Jezebel

1 Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “ So may the gods do to me and even more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” 3 And he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Elijah at Horeb

9 Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 He said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”

11 So He said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle blowing. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 Then he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” 15 The Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you have arrived, you shall anoint Hazael king over Aram; 16 and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place. 17 It shall come about, the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death. 18 Yet I will leave 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

BACKGROUND

  • Elijah- 9th century prophet of the Hebrew Bible

  • Jezebel- wife of king Ahab; a wicked woman.

  • Ahab- the 7th king of the northern kingdom of Israel; reigned for about 22 yrs.

POINT 1: A threat given! (Jezebel)! Vv. 1-3

  • Because of the threat, Elijah went from Mt. Carmel or Jezreel all the way to Beersheba (map).

  • The first, “so why are you here”? (The word of the Lord to Elijah) Vv. 9-10

  • Many times we go down the wrong path that God has not planned for us to be on!

  • He felt like he was _alone______!

POINT 2: The second, “so why are you here”? (The Lord to Elijah) Vv. 11-14

  • The same question is asked by God and the same response is given by Elijah, in that regard!

  • The Lord did not come in the _wind__, nor the ___earthquake_______, neither the fire,  BUT in the SILENCE!

—Zechariah 4:6, The word of the Lord to Zechariah for Zerubbabel, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”

CONCLUDING POINT: There is hope, just have faith! There is work to be done! Vv. 15-18

  • In the silence there is:

—___ENCOURAGEMENT___--just knowing that God has come; He has lended a listening ear and looked your way!

—HOPE—through the instructions that are given. It seemed like a “lost cause”, but God!

—LOVE—being shown through His patience and guidance! (God loves us so much that He makes the seemingly possible, to us, possible and with that, it is all according to our faith; Matthew 9:29)!

Thank you Lord, thank you Jesus!

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 92:1-4

         Minister Frederick A. Landy

Psalm 92:1-4(NASB):

It is good to give thanks to the LORD
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night, With the ten-stringed lute and with the harp,
With resounding music upon the lyre.
For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You haven done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

Putting things into perspective! -a

•This particular psalm is “A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day.”

•There are many valid and reliable sources that relay the Sabbath day as historically being observed on Saturday.
▫The sources that verify “the day of rest”:
  • The Holy Bible  (The Supreme & Ultimate source)
  • Genesis 2:2-4  (NASB): “By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done and He rested on the seventh day form all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”
  • The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:8-11)
  • The Gospels, specifically, Mark 2:27 (NASB): “Jesus said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath…’”

Putting things into perspective! -b

We can worship the Lord any day of the week and the Psalmist here in Psalm 92 lets us know that!

With having Jesus Christ deep down in our hearts and the Holy Spirit resting within us, our worship is not restricted just to a church building, but can be expressed any where!

Putting things into perspective! –c

•If there are 24 hours in a day and 60 minutes in 1 hour, how many minutes are there in a day?

▫How do we get the answer?

______________________________________

ANSWER:  There are 1440 minutes in a day!

---------------------

Morning & evening devotion

Vv. 1-2

1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night,

LOVINGKINDNESS – God kept us throughout the night.

FAITHFULNESS – God kept us throughout that day.

The implication given here is that before we go out each day, and after we’ve come back in, we must bless the Lord!

---------------------

Praising & worshipping the Lord!

Vv. 3-4

3 With the ten-stringed lute and with the harp,
With resounding music upon the lyre.
4 For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

From the bottom of our hearts, to the depths of our soul, is how sincere our worship unto the Lord should be!

Let us not worship the created, but rather, the Creator!

---------------------

 Some questions to be asked…

•How can you give God thanks for the things that He has done for you? Show God that you love Him?
▫John 14:23

GOD IS STILL IN THE BLESSING BUSINESS!

06.10.12

Image Detail

In these last and evil days, it may seem like things cannot get any worse! Bills piling up, children going contrary to the word-of-God, issues on our jobs, problems within our neighborhoods, money acting funny and our change is acting strange! Through it all, I come to encourage you to continue to put your trust in the Lord!

Nobody, told me that the road would be easy, but I don't believe that God would bring any of us this far in our lives, just to leave us.  Amen.

I come to declare that Yes, God is still in the blessing business! As I am writing this "Rhema Topic" I have just gotten through preaching and after given the invitation to discipleship and having the altar call, one of the members here at Christ-faith Bible Center, stated, "Pastor Landy, I have something to say, I just have to share this!" So this particular member an older African American woman was standing in the back of the sanctuary and she begins to cry and states, "You know I'm standing here and I cannot believe it! You know we prayed about this a while ago and declared that I was healed and I come to let everybody know that I went to the doctor this past week and he said that I am CANCER FREE! He said I didn't even need the surgeries that I ended up having!!"

After hearing such a testimony, we at Christ-faith just begin to rejoice, giving God all the glory for what He has done in the life of our dear sister! Many of the members all across the sanctuary begin to go to her and was just hugging and crying with her!! I also came down off the pulpit and rejoiced with our dear sister! For God is Jehovah Rapha, a Healer, oh yes He is! This the God that we serve saints-of-God! It is time out for foolishness! Either worship the Lord and serve Him only or go with the devil! I encourage to worship the Lord and serve Him only, because God is love! We know that through Him having sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, into the world to die for our sins! Hallelujah God!

I'm still overjoyed while writing this "Rhema Topic", but with that I simply say that it is according to our faith that we receive the blessings, healing, breakthroughs and deliverance from God! Just begin to praise God in advance for whatever you are believing Him for and I guarantee that He will come through for you, but watch this, on His timing!

May God bless you and keep you,

Pastor Frederick A. Landy
