Answering the question of

"Why Jesus?"

by: Frederick A. Landy, MAML

Why KNOW Jesus?

Romans 6:23 (NIV),

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

  • To know Jesus is to love Him and when we love Him we cannot help but to obey Him.

 Why ACCEPT Jesus?-a

Acts 4:12(NIV),

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Galatians 2:16a (KJV),

“…Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ…”

  • Jesus is the only who can save; that was His mission when God sent Him on the earth the first time.
  • By having the faith of Christ this lets us know how we become saved and by keeping the faith and doing our best to live a life pleasing in God’s sight, is a must!
  • A CLOSER LOOK: I John 3:16a, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us...” -what a love.)

Why ACCEPT Jesus?-b

John 3:16-17 (NIV),

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

  • One of most important and fulfilling day in anyone’s life is when he or she accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior!
  • Why accept Jesus? Because we are fulfilled in Him; all voids are filled and our true identity shines forth.

Why STAY WITH Jesus?-a

John 14:6 (NIV),

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

  • He is the One who allows us the opportunity to come to the Father.
  • There is safety in the Lord Jesus; safety from all hurt, harm and danger.

Why STAY WITH Jesus?-b

A CLOSER LOOK: I John 3:16b-17(NIV),

…and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”

  • As the above Scriptures discloses, He will show us how to really treat others and how to esteem others more than ourselves.
  • He will lead and guide us in all truth through the Holy Spirit!

“Why…Jesus?” because we cannot make this journey (live) without Him!

We NEED JESUS!

Why LOVE LIKE Jesus?

A CLOSER LOOK: I John 3:18 (NIV),

“ Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

  • Love is an action word and cannot just merely be spoken, but shown.
  • Jesus has shown us how to love throughout the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

 "Say yes to 'L.I.F.E.'!"

by: Frederick A. Landy, MAML

F.Y.I.              -in Hebrew:

Yahweh = LORD

Yeshua/Yahshua- The Lord of Salvation

L.I.F.E.

Living in Full Expectancy

(of a move-of-God happening in one's life)

I.          A WORD STUDY

QUESTIONS

1. What is your definition of the word "life"?

2. How is living life to the fullest summed up by the world? by the Word?

PossA: The world would say "do all you can to advance yourself without regarding others feelings and emotions and don't worry about being moral and truthful, that doesn't matter" whereas the Word says we should allow    ourselves to be "...rich in faith..." (James 2:5) and "...consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." (Hebrews 10:24), while using wisdom in our everyday lives.

The word 'Life' is defined as a noun

1. a. The property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment origination from within the organism.

b. The characteristic state or condition of a living organism.

4. The physical, mental, and spiritual experiences that constitute existence: the artistic life of a writer.

Life. American Heritage Dictionary [online]. Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006-2009, accessed June 03, 2013, from http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/life/. Internet. Excludes definitions 2-3; 5-12.

LIVE

The word in Hebrew is spelled with the Hebrew letters Het...Yud and pronounced k-hi.

chay OT:2416, "living thing; life." The use of this word occurs only in the oath formula "as X lives," literally, "by the life of X": "And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the Lord liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you" Judg 8:19. This formula summons the power of a superior to sanction the statement asserted. In Judg 8:19 God is the witness to Gideon's pledge to kill his enemies and this statement that they brought the penalty on themselves. A similar use appears in Gen 42:15 except that the power summoned is Pharaoh's: "Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither." In 1 Sam 1:26 Hannah employs a similar phrase summoning Eli himself to attest the truthfulness of her statement: "And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord." Only God swears by His own power: "And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word: But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord" Num 14:20-21.

II.        SCRIPTURE (two translations)

Psalm 118:17 KJV

"I shall not die, but live to declare the works of the Lord." (v.18 emphasis also;)

            -'what the Lord has done.'

Ps 118:17 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) translation

"I will not die; no, I will live

and proclaim the great deeds of Yah!"

  • This is David speaking here in this text particular with emphasis on a time in Israel's history in light of the minor prophet Habakkuk. David, the king; Habakkuk, the prophet.
  • Habakkuk was one of the minor prophets who prophesized during the late 7th century b.c His book is the eighth book in light of the twelve minor prophets. The era he prophesied was during the Babylonian-Assyrian captivity. It was where God allowed the wicked Jews (Chaldeans) to oppress the righteous Jews, all temporary in the end This was the southern kingdom of Judah.. This Biblical account can be found in II Kings 23:4---24:5.
  • "Death" threatened Israel (Ps 116:15), but the Lord, by His glorious "works" in her behalf, delivered her, and gave her a theme to celebrate or "declare" (cf. Ps 71:20; Hab 1:12).

(from Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary, Electronic Database. Copyright © 1997, 2003, 2005, 2006 by Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved.)

  • Part a of the verse is an intrapersonal declaration which involves oneself and oneself alone, whereas part b of the verse is an interpersonal declaration which is a declaration that involves others, in this case the Lord. This is with the belief that it is the result of one's intrapersonal declaration to be able to testify.

III.       EXPLANATION

  • It's time to say 'yes' to L.I.F.E., "Living In Full Expectancy." No more settling for less.
  • When we declare that we will "live", what we are saying is that nothing what comes and goes and no matter who may come and go, every day we will 'Live in full expectancy" of the promises that the Lord God has spoken unto us.
  • We must be careful with how we agree with everything and everyone, because it can affect the end result of a thing.

1. What are some actions or gestures that will signify that we have said 'yes' to L.I.F.E.?

2. Why are some reasons why many are not "Living in full expectancy? How do we incorporate "Living in full expectancy" in our everyday lives?

Taking a closer look at the "5W's" & the "H" within Christianity

by: Frederick A. Landy, MAML

This is a simple discourse of the various questions that exist to be within life. This takes it a step further and shines light on how the "5W's" and the "H" can be conveyed with Christianity.

  • Who? (asks the question, "Who is it about?")----Who did God use to come through on our behalf?

  • ***What? (asks the question, "What happened?")---[This comes at the end. This is the testimony, once God has come through for us.]

  • When? (asks the question, "When did it take place?")---Did God come through for you in the morning, afternoon, etc?; the same day or the next day?; last week or this week?...

  • Where? (asks the question, "Where did it take place?")---Where did God come through for you? Was it on your job?; On your way home from work?; At church?; At the supermarket or the gas station?...

  • ***Why? (asks the question, "Why did it happen?")---[This comes at the end. This also is usually included within the testimony, once God has come through for us. Why did it happens is more times than none, because of faith and patience, where obedience is intertwined.] [This is, in some instances, determined by us, whether we're living a life pleasing in God's sight or not. BUT then there are those times when God's GRACE overtakes us and He allows the good to come, when we don't even deserve it, knowing that this is the simplistic definition of the word "grace."

  • How? (asks the question, "How did it happen?")---This is usually answered during the same time that the answer to the question of "What happened?" is being shared. The question, "What happened?" answers all of the other questions that are listed here. It finalizes everything. The "how" is the part that God determines, because even though we may not know how, meaning how God is going to do it, our faith must say 'it is so, in Jesus' name!'
