It's never too late: education at any age.
by: Frederick A. Landy, M.A.
There is a man by the name of Mr. Allen Dunbar. He has decided to get his GED. His age, late 40's.
Sure, many may say, "you're a little too old to be going back to school to try for your GED?!" or "Why waste your time, you've already been living your life!" In one light, those types of comments may seem to resonate to be true, but, on the contrary, I come to let you know that this man's example is one to say that it is never to late to get an education.
I learned of Mr. Dunbar's decision and also his already pursing of earning a GED just this past week while I was on Spring Break (April 2014). It did my heart well to know that a man in his late 40's would want to take on the task of getting his GED. Not only that, but to know that he desires to obtain an Associates degree afterwards, is even more remarkable.
It does my heart well to know of this man's endeavor because this man is my father. Yes, Mr. Allen Dunbar the one who is pursing his GED is my biological father. While writing this Rhema Topic, I am full of joy just to know that my father, whom I was not raised by or really had strong connections with has made me proud in light of this. Sure, my father and I have not always had the best relationship when it comes down to a father and his son, but I chose to pursue one with him within the last four years.
If you're reading this article right now and you have been distant with your mom or dad, take the time to reach out to them. Ask the Lord to help you to forgive so you can move on in your life. It's time to live life to the fullest and stop being held down by insecurities and past hurts and pains. Take it to Jesus, right now. He can handle it.
In light of the education aspect of this article, I just wanted to use my father's example as encouragement to someone, to let you know that it is never too late to gain an education. The opportunities are endless. Why not make a start for it now?
