About Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.

The first of its kind beginning in the NEW YEAR -2018!!!

by: Frederick A. Landy, M.A.

I must say that after being out of high school, now at the time of writing this Rhema Topic, exactly eleven (11) years and being in my career within the realm of post-secondary education, I felt it was the time to now give back.

Give back, yes, to the place that equipped me to now be here at this point in my life. The point of now being in a career within post-secondary education. The point of being more established in my music & media efforts, having released my fifth cd project last year -2016 along with an up & coming YouTube channel. The point of being a forthcoming full-fledge entrepreneur where my own non-profit, Landy's Gospel Creations-LGC is continuously growing and now thriving in it's eighth (8th) year. The point where I've been able to grace the presence and give of one's time, energy, etc. to so many young people in many states all over the United States that now it must be done for the young people back in the state that "built" me throughout my youth -South Carolina.

I believe it is nothing but right, if we have the chance, to reach back and give to the place that was our foundation. Why? Because it allows those, young and even aged, in that place to see that they can go to any place, if that's the route that they look to take one day. It speaks volume to the adage that says, "never forgot where you come from." Yes, many of us leave; we grow, and we go, but the things that I believe we must never lose are the lessons from our upbringing, the tree of our heritage and those branches and leaves on them that are now the morals and values that has gotten us to the place we are at in our lives right now.

Moreover, success can take on many forms and I believe being philanthropic truly is one of them. So, through this, I introduce the first of its kind beginning in the NEW YEAR -2018, The Frederick A. Landy scholarship. Yes, my very own scholarship will look to celebrate monetarily, the accomplishments of the recipient of the "Thoroughbred Award" -nominated senior out each graduating class from my high school alma mater, South Aiken High School (Aiken County Public Schools) in Aiken, South Carolina USA this beginning with the class of 2018.

Q: What is the PURPOSE of the Frederick A. Landy scholarship?

PURPOSE:

It is the purpose of the Frederick A. Landy Scholarship to be a source of encouragement and inspiration to each recipient. It is through the above mission that Mr. Frederick A. Landy, the 2006 recipient of the Thoroughbred Award out of his graduating class at South Aiken, looks to provide a scholarship to commemorate the achievements of the student receiving this prestigious award.

Q: What is the GOAL of the Frederick A. Landy scholarship?

GOAL:

It is the goal of the Frederick A. Landy Scholarship to make it possible for each recipient to achieve their dreams through having received financial aid to help make it all a reality.

With the scholarship, in memory of my maternal grandmother who, along with my grandfather, raised me, the recipient out of each graduating class will receive the Rev. Sheldonia Brown Medal of Achievement as a 'token'. The Rev. Sheldonia Brown Medal of Achievement will be the kind of 'token' that will reflect all the tokens my maternal grandmother gave many young people and I throughout her lifetime: 'wisdom', 'inspiration', 'encouragement' and more.

*Please Note: Though this scholarship is being given by Mr. Frederick A. Landy with respect to his Christian non-profit organization, Landy's Gospel Creations-LGC, where he is the Founder & CEO, we must make it clear that we do not discriminate upon: race, culture, religion or sex.  Also, the amount to be given each year can change without prior notification and the Rev. Sheldonia Brown Medal of Achievement will also be presented with this scholarship as to celebrate the life of Mr. Landy’s maternal’s grandmother as named.
